you will never ever be able to convince me that this sudden capitulation of CDC leading to the 'mission accomplished' announcements everywhere has nothing to do with poverty wage jobs needing their workers.

There was an attempted coup four months ago where the president sent his supporters and domestic terrorists to attack Congress, kill his vice president, and overthrow an election and people are either acting like it never happened or like it’s a totally manageable non-crisis.

You've got to ask...what's the point? This is an exercise in futility and a guarantee that the process will not lead to anything like justice or accountability.

Note the snide "bright lighting for make-up". The tweet is basically insulting trans women for being big, tall, and "ugly".

Who else insults women when they're big, tall, and "ugly"?

Who else thinks all "real" women should be petite, small, and naturally "beautiful"?

@AlexandraErin That 51 isn't a prime is really just a shame. Something ought to be done. And 119? Please.

New: A since-deleted video from 2019 shows MTG harassing @AOC's office through a locked door. Calling her "crazy eyes" and telling her through the office's mailbox slot to "get rid of your diaper" while telling the office to open the door and come out.

Thanks CDC! Now we get to have liars who aren't vaccinated walk among those of us trying to protect ourselves or our immunocompromised family and friends and we'll have no way of telling them apart from vaccinated people. Thank you! This is what I was hoping for ALLLLL year!

The danger of a blind trust in the "forward march of history" is that this is not how history works.

I think we on the left could use a lot more friendly, approachable media. While I love me some good aggressive graphic design, right now, I think the right is consistently winning the propaganda game in part because they wrap their ideas with really easy-to-swallow tone and appeals to common sense. We can do that too, in pursuit of a more compassionate, humane, and just world.

So I made a couple images for my local chapter of the IWW that I'm pretty proud of.

I have SVG versions of these if people want to play with them. I'm happy for these to be spread widely; please download them, share them, modify them, whatever. Information wants to be free!

in reply to Eldevigo

I'm definitely interested in getting a bunch of these printed on stickers.
Are you OK with that?
Would you like me to send you some?
in reply to Eldevigo

Totally okay with that! If you'd like to send me a couple, that would be cool.

I'm happy to send you PDF (for printing) or SVG (for editing) versions if that would be helpful.

anyway my thesis is on how shakespeare is positioned as 'timeless' and 'universal' and therefore deployed for social conservatism. the perceived 'timelessness' of shakespeare is used to position transness as a new, niche cause that is fundamentally unserious

People love saying “you’re gonna need the police when you get robbed” and like I don’t know a single person who had a police officer stop them from getting robbed. I know a lot of people who got robbed and told the police who then took notes and drove away and did nothing.

Today is the anniversary of the Nazi book burnings, when the entire research library at Hirschfeld’s Institute of Sexology was publicly burned. Almost all scientific research into trans lives went kaput. People who think we appeared yesterday: there’s a reason you think that.

Consumer habits have shifted because there hasn’t been need to dress according to trends—we’ve all been in loungewear.

Essentially everyone has chosen an aesthetic outside of society’s gaze and so the trend of “cheugy” is an attempt to get people back in stores.

in reply to Spencer

I only learned what "cheugy" loosely means today and I like this take on it.

there is actually no ethical way to participate in cryptocurrency, and it’s not the same as other unethical industries like meat or fast fashion because those are things where the sustainable alternatives are unattainable to certain classes of people

Really excited (aka, not remotely excited) to see the Wall Street Journal doing PR work for the edtech surveillance industry.

Journalists should do more than act as stenographers.

At the rate crypto-capitalist exploitation is progressing, we won't be able to produce anything that requires a data processor or flash bit storage by the end of the year.

And well...that's pretty much everything.

We're rapidly sprinting towards the neo dark ages.

Every piece of public infrastructure relies on a processor, from the city bus, to the machinery that builds roads, to the medical devices that treat everyday people.

Without even getting into long term environmental damage, crypto-capital is antithetical to society in the short.

anyways yet another illustration of the degree to which even the defenders of the oldest, most orthodox hierarchies feel these days a deep need to cast themselves as nonconformists and rebels

the way trans medicine is discussed, you’d be forgiven for thinking it really is a distinct, unique medical matter to be debated. in reality, everyone’s sex and gender are bound up in medicalization and the real distinctions are *social* (thread):

Cryptocurrency is the purest expression of late techno capitalism: use the most freely available tool – computer code – to create artificially scarce assets whose appreciation relies entirely on public hype, while negating all of Earth's States' efforts to curb carbon emissions.

This attitude is why poverty costs us more than abolishing poverty does. We’d spend $100 and let 100 people go hungry to prevent $1 or a single meal to go to someone we’ve deemed undeserving.

Our self-righteous cruelty is wasteful. Indulging it is a luxury we can’t afford.

The federal government partnering with knockoff taxi apps to provide free transport to vaccination locations is a good thing.

It's also a reminder that accessible public transit benefits everyone. It should always be this easy for people to get where they need to go.

Not many people know that some neurotransmitters are released through your tear ducts as tears. The emotional relief you feel after crying isn’t a placebo, it’s the effect of your brain literally releasing the chemical signals of emotion to reduce intensity.
Crying is healthy.

@sleepisocialist @islandgoth Graeber made this point about pointless jobs but it would also apply here, that managers don't really want to get rid of jobs because managing people is how they justify their own salary. Plus robots are built by people that don't know how to do the jobs the robots are made for

Its funny that businesses are begging for workers instead of just getting those robots we're told will so easily replace us if we raise the minimum wage

This tweet is six months old and there has since been a violent attempted coup for which none of the major organizers were punished. A failed coup is a dress rehearsal. Both parties know it, and neither will act to avoid a repeat. Beware: complacency is complicity.
