Okay, here we go. This is boring but I guess I'm doing it.

This story of Eric Carle and his publisher "fighting bitterly over the stomachache scene" in The Very Hungry Caterpillar is fake. Eric Carle never said this, the interview is a parody, it was an April Fools joke. 1/?

One example: Anti-homeless architecture isn't just about "cleaning up the streets," or whatever: it's a constant reminder to labor that if you don't keep coming back to work, there is no place, there is no rest, for you here.

If you're not willing to kill the senate filibuster to properly investigate an armed insurrection against the U.S. Capitol and secure the basic right to vote in elections, you are favoring the made-up procedural rules of a democracy over the actual fucking democracy itself.

Democrats control the executive and legislature of history's mightiest empire and have a majority of the public at their back.

They need to do something about this instead of asking for permission to cut the noose around their own necks.

New:

A MAGA-obsessed, AR-15-centric religious sect has bought a sprawling compound in Texas, which it hopes will be a safe haven to "patriots" from what they believe is an imminent "deep state" war. The property was listed at just under $1 million.

NEWS:

A new analysis of 2020 circulating among Dems finds that House Ds spent huge sums on ads touting bipartisanship while the GOP spent massively on tarring Dems as socialists.

The study shows Ds badly need to improve in prosecuting GOP radicalization:

STRATEGY MEMO: @LeaderMcConnell is reported to be begging Republican Senators, asking them for a personal favor, which is voting against the January 6th commission. What conceivable reason could there be for the Senate Minority Leader to vote against finding out every detail 1/

Truly stunning how much the GOP passes unpopular and inhumane legislation while consolidating its frightful base of the super-rich and Nazis, whereas Dems sacrifice popular and necessary legislation on the altar of bipartisanship while alienating its base of the US majority

Let me be crystal clear.
Yes, antisemitism is rising. The overwhelming vast majority of it is coming from the right. This should be understood w/in the worldwide rise of fascism.
Criticism of Israeli crimes by members of Congress is NOT antisemitism.

We're clearly moving toward a new system in which statewide votes in many red and purple states are refashioned into recommendations to the gerrymandered GOP state legislature. Which then chooses the president, senator, secy of state etc etc. Rinse, repeat.

Violent crime typically shoots up when economic devastation and massive, sustained national trauma occurs. I think one reason many of the current attacks on police reform don’t have as much purchase as they could’ve is b/c a normal person can tell what happened since March 2020

I'm back from a week at my mom's house and now I'm getting ads for her toothpaste brand, the brand I've been putting in my mouth for a week. We never talked about this brand or googled it or anything like that.

As a privacy tech worker, let me explain why this is happening. 🧵

Me too. The spaces where I feel drawn—ActivityPub, the IndieWeb, Scuttlebutt—all share that ethos, and I want more of it.

Cold take: it's pretty fucked up that the "proper" way to unfuck the USA's democracy is "win against overwhelming odds repeatedly and by large enough margins to overturn permanent minority rule by white bigots. And don't you dare break even one window in the process."

They don’t know what CRT is but don’t need to because their people don’t either. They could just as easily rail against teaching the Standard Theory in physics. The point was to turn an academic school of thought into a catch-all phrase that conjures everything people fear.

The GOP, deeply enmeshed in violent white nationalism and xenophobia, has decided to go on the offensive. By attacking antiracism they’re changing the subject away from the racial arson they’ve encouraged. The attacks on “critical race theory” are central to this.

They're maneuvering to steal the 2024 election. There's no secret plan, no anonymous sources or leaked documents -- it's just all right out in the open -- so we seem unable to treat it as an important story, or call it what it is.

There is no compromise with this. There is no common ground. There is no deal to be struck. Millions of our fellow citizens are lost in rebellion against reality.

For example, when a user files a claim, they record a video on their phone and explain what happened.

Our AI carefully analyzes these videos for signs of fraud. It can pick up non-verbal cues that traditional insurers can't, since they don’t use a digital claims process. (4/7)

@Aranock1 @AnaMardoll It's not even like this is theoretical; we've got basically ALL OF HISTORY showing what an attitude of "This class of person dressing the way they want is inherently sexual and must be banned" leads to.

One thing I feel like is not being mentioned in the current discourse is what is defined as kink, and who does that defining. There are plenty of transphobes who define trans people dressing and presenting as our gender as being kink. And, especially with recent bills, 1/6
