There is no such thing as ā€œforced diversityā€. The world is LITERALLY diverse. If your staff or influencers are all cis white people, you need to reevaluate your workspaces.

Having spaces that are all white is NOT NORMAL. It’s tactically built to be exclusive & keep others out.

Further proof that "cancel culture" is, by and large, code for "having to face consequences for my actions".

Bob Baffert blamed "cancel culture" after his horse, Medina Spirit, who won the Kentucky Derby, failed its post-race drug test.

"We live in a different world now. This America's different."

This morning I'm thinking about how 99.9% of the U.S. still doesn't know that, after they killed Breonna Taylor, Louisville cops managed to get the City to increase their budget by $750,000 and to cut the public library budget by $775,000.

yep. ā€œa democratic election victory is inherently illegitimateā€ is already republican party dogma and should biden/harris win by a similarly slim margins in 2024 republicans will simply refuse to certify the results. hell, we’ll probably see this even if they aren’t slim.

pretty clear at this point that if Republicans control Congress in 2024 a Democrat will not be allowed to win the presidential election. simple as that

I made some really cool images for my union this weekend, and now I just want to make cheery, welcoming images about leftist politics. šŸ™ƒ

Christopher Nolan, eat your heart out.

Genuine question: Was there *literally anything* on Quibi as well constructed as this kid’s zero-budget TikTok

Here’s what’s confusing people. For most of our lives, the U.S. has has a ā€œtwo-party system.ā€ Most of our politics—and journalism—assumes that.

We don’t have that any more. We have a mainstream party, and we have extremists trying to overthrow and subvert our democracy.

We're literally watching the largest labor movement in modern American history happen in the form of paper signs taped to the windows of fast-food and fast-casual restaurants!

@RottenInDenmark I can't help but think part of why the U.S. latched onto sanitation and ignored ventilation is that sanitation can more readily be framed as "personal responsibility" while ventilation really requires changes to be made by institutions.

you know when you think about it "I will continuously destroy property you can easily replace until you give in to our demands" sounds a lot more reasonable than "I will take away the benefits you need to survive until you give in to our demands"

Sexual art, porn etc is an irrepressibly valuable part of the human cultural ecosystem and those artists do more and more important work than any of the spineless tech executives who dutifully throw it under the bus the second their evangelical corporate overlords agitate for it

Test-drove a Tesla Model 3 today. It's truly inspiring the amount of human ingenuity and innovation that went into making something as simple as driving a sedan so complicated that you need a full tutorial on things like how to adjust the mirrors or open the glovebox

The FBI is going after the founder of Sci-Hub, for the appalling crime of making publicly funded research freely available.

Weird that in all this talk of labor shortages in the U.S. there's little mention of the almost 600k people who have died from COVID. How many of them worked in industries that are having trouble hiring? How many of their coworkers decided it wasn't worth the risk anymore?

This is right. All Donald Trump did was take the GOP's Southern Strategy and elevated it from subtext to text in neon lighting.

His presidency is not an aberration, but rather the culmination of what the GOP has been trying to bring to fruition for decades.

When you see tweets from accounts like this, please keep in mind that they're intentionally perpetuating the VERY DISTINCTLY NAZI idea that modern art is "corrupt" or "degenerate."

Don't retweet them.

Reminder that ā€œFountainā€ is over 100 years old and was intended as commentary on the authority of critics who think they get to decide what’s allowed to be Art, it’s intentionally provocative. Dadaism was an anti-fascist movement, that’s why this piece gets trotted out every time

Imagine if a US adversary attacked worshippers in a church. How would the US media cover it?

If you’re a journalist say something, cover this story & stop trying to water down what Israel is doing. This is criminal. Call it what is is.

This is one of my biggest problems with capitalism in the end. There's so much racism and cruelty baked into the system. It leads to all kinds of "trip over a dollar to rush to a dime" bullshit. Capitalism can't even do capitalism right, because hurting people is more important.

You know maybe the reason we are having trouble getting people back to work at the substandard rates they were working at before isn't so much because we are giving people too much support now as it is we didn't give them enough support in the earlier stages of the pandemic.

They're going to steal the 2024 presidential election. They're specifically eliminating anyone in the party who might impede or push back against that effort. It could not be more obvious -- big red flags waving all over the place.

The push for vaccinated people to get ā€œback to normalā€ isn’t just about rushing the end of the pandemic.

It’s also a sign of a culture profoundly unaccepting of grief, trauma and the process needed for healing.

American exceptionalism is ridiculous for a lot of big, obvious reasons, but then there's smaller stuff like this that just really rubs it in.

This country is nonsense!

Kazimierz Kurz reshared this.

in reply to Hypolite Petovan

…aaand it's not his fault.

Funny though that the EU made a bunch of moves to actually force US card companies to stop doing shady business about asking money for nothing. Also forcing banks to [kind of] stop askin for money just for international money transfer, but also provided a unified way to do it, instead of the US way of "whatever works, or may work, or whatever whatever".

in reply to grin

I'm not saying it's Musk's fault, he merely profited from the situation.
in reply to Hypolite Petovan

And I haven't said you said that it'd be his fault. :smiling face with smiling eyes

(And he's an investor, no wonder he try to profit from any situation.)

This thread. Papers Please is a masterpiece of game design.

I think Papers Please is one of the most interesting game to watch letsplays of, because WOW the way people react to this game is telling.

Ajit Pai knew that there was overwhelming consensus in favor of net neutrality. The goal of the telecom giants who funded these fraudulent comments was to muddy the waters, create confusion, and provide cover for Trump's FCC to repeal these democratically enacted protections.

NEW (via NY AG Letitia James): ā€œAfter a multi-year investigation, we found the nation's largest broadband companies funded a secret campaign to influence the FCC's repeal of net neutrality rules — resulting in millions of fake public comments impersonating Americans...ā€

One of the interesting things about Basecamp as a ~discourse~ is how it reveals that we have folks running around UNABLE TO PERCEIVE power

It’s invisible to them, both in isolation and as a gradient between those who have it and those who don’t.

So Matt Gaetz and Madison Cawthorne are going to just get to stay in Congress huh.

The gall.

The fucking audacity.

Brands are not your friends.

Well, there’s no way around it: @tumblr is one of the queerest places on the internet.

How queer? Apparently, folks on Tumblr are 193% more likely to identify as LGBTQIA+ than on any other social media platform … including t.w.i.t.t.e.r. Is that you? Are you #tumblrqueer?

All of this is even more of a reason to reject calls from Centrists and the State for a new 'war on terror' against 'violent extremism' which will only result in a continued assault against popular social movements as the far-Right continues to grow.

It seems that the FBI is cultivating a similar relationship within groups like the Proud Boys, in order for them to act as an independent vehicle for violence against the State’s enemies: autonomous social movements from below.
