It's okay to expound extensively on critical race theory even if you've never read an article or book about it but you definitely should not talk about guns unless you personally know the man who designed the AR-15

i feel like liberals, who mostly avoid rw media, have no idea of the craziness they soak in daily that millions of our fellow americans truly believe. roving bands of antifa, cancelling disney cartoons on the behalf of powerful blm militias. *they believe all this shit*

when they vote republican they really and truly believe they are voting to stop antifa/blm thugs from ripping their cities apart and giving all of their jobs (and daughters) to "illegals." they. really. believe. this.

I’m pretty wiped so I’m going to have to take a break, but pls keep amplifying this thread of fundraisers for the covid crisis in India. It’s been over 10 days but there has been v little improvement. People are still dying bc of hospitals running out of beds, hospitals & meds.

I made one of those academic paper memes for a... certain type of columnist

Maybe we shouldn't have society where a divorce can "send shock waves through the worlds of philanthropy, public health and business."

Where they were, I don't know, taxed and their money just went straight to public health and jobs? And basic needs didn't require philanthrophy?

I love shit like this, or like the recent research that showed that ancient cave-painters who dove deep into the earth using torches for light would be experiencing hypoxia.

This is magic. And I don't mean that derisively.

“Haunted” houses are actually just carbon monoxide poisoning 🤯

in reply to Spencer

The fact that the human brain is fundamentally a physical, material thing, and changes to it affect our mind and experience… that's deeply magical and deeply human.

And we can do more with that knowledge than dismiss it.

Mentioned it on here before but for those curious it focused on a bunch of stuff going back to the Cold War. I argued the ‘War On Terror’ filled the void left by the USSR for a political bogeyman, and how this role is always served by former Western allies who fell from grace.

racists complain about non-racist academic study of racial issues because it teaches people to spot their racism. gives away all the tricks

the problem is so many of y'all were taught a whitewashed version of the civil rights movement, and now that's no longer happening in some school, you're whinging about it and calling it CRT when it's literally just fucking history.

we have a lot of dumb culture war stuff around but getting mad at private businesses who choose not to sell meat, and who will have to sink or swim in the free market after that decision, is really up there

and pad kee mao, but yes.

we spend a lot of time talking about pad thai when we really should be talking about pad see ew

All the anti-vaxxers bleating about "freedom" have actually robbed many of the most vulnerable among us of their freedom. Those with preexisting conditions or certain other health issues depend upon herd immunity to be at least reasonably safe. And that's been stolen from them.

@LinfieldUniv’s current state on May 2,2021 is full blown authoritarian control. I have also heard from several faculty how campus security entered faculty offices and took down their signs expressing any support for @pollackpelzner and any critique of our administration.

Thinking about how bottles water didn't really take off as an idea until municipalities started removing and disconnecting public water fountains and that in ten years we're all going to be carrying some kind of asinine mini chair to sit in because of anti-homeless architecture

starting to think [Disney/copyright/capitalism] might be bad, actually

There's a reason for the anonymity: Disney's anticompetitive mergers (culminating with the destructive Fox merger) has created a monopoly with vast market-power to destroy creators' livelihoods by excluding them for speaking out.

Love that feeling when one political party in your country is mounting a full-scale assault on democracy and, like, nobody seems alarmed???
in reply to Jac Archer

@JacDArcher Voting restrictions, redistricting, a headline I saw about "empowering poll watchers"… kinda the whole melange.

The first May Day in 1886. "A day of revolt - not of rest!" (Foner, May Day)
More than 300,000 workers strike across the United States. The movement is centered on Chicago, where 40,000 strike & even more march through the streets led by anarchists, Albert & Lucy Parsons (Avrich)

America is not a racist country but if we teach our children about all the racist things this country has done they might think the country is racist is a helluva argument, I have to say.

No one is pushing laws mandating the teaching of the #1619Project, but Republicans across the U.S. are pushing laws to mandate "patriotic" education & to prohibit the teaching of the #1619Project and abt nation's racist past. If you're not reporting it that way, you're failing.

There's no such thing as a "labor shortage"

There are industries and companies that refuse to pay people enough to work there

The decline in unionization has led pay for all workers to drop $3,250/year compared to 40 years ago.

Collective bargaining used to set market rates for non-union workers. Now that unions represent just 11% of workers, it's everyone for themselves

It's not a day "off" if you're forced to do twice as much work when you come back to make up for it.

It's a company's responsibility to staff up enough so you can have real time off.

where's my damn guillotine emoji

The parent company of Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut saw earnings drop 25%. As a result, the CEO was in line for no bonus

But the company said that would be "unfair" so they gave him a $9.5 million bonus anyway.

Their workers dealing with a pandemic got $0

I've been reading through bills banning teaching of the 1619 Project, Critical Race Theory etc This from Missouri captures how the bills purport to be about something specific but are actually intended to chill any kind of interrogation of history that the right doesn't like

I feel like Keanu Reeves and Nic Cage are opposite ends of a spectrum, both illustrating how narrow our definition of "acting" is.

I went to a screening of BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS and Nic Cage did a talk...he said it pissed him off that people called him "over the top" because there is no 'top' to human emotion and we all applauded.

imagine how many problems in our society would be solved if marginalized people were given material support like money, housing, and healthcare instead of empty sentiments of support.

I do not believe cryptocurrency is tied with economic anxiety. It is only used by gullible fools who are already rich in national currency, and looking for a way to become even richer by foraying into what sounds like an untapped market. For some reason it is also promoted by a weird fringe of the decentralization movement but uuuh...
