today was a wild day to be out of cell service for a couple hours, tell you what

[heads up: alc]

From a couple nights ago: Picture's nothing special, but I made a pandan old-fashioned. It was really tasty; simple, nutty, and sweet, with a slightly creamy mouthfeel.

@Laury Plant, this may be of interest to you. 😉

Here's to enduring.

Here's to laying deep roots.

Here's to what we build with our hands for each other, and to the loving connections that sustain us.

Lovely cover of a beautiful song. One of The Decemberists' best, in my opinion.

raaaaaaaaaad 😎

Indigenous people from modern day Canada and Alaska invented the first sunglasses. The oldest pair known dates back to the year 1200. They work by limiting the amount of sunlight that hits your eyes, preventing snow blindness.
These sun filters are carved from wood or animal bone or ivory

It's interesting that the laws being proposed right now regarding online sex work (such as OnlyFans) and streaming of copyright content (ex: games on Twitch) are targeting two major ways working class people can make money on their own outside if traditional ways of employment

All I want is to take like a month off of work, redecorate my office, and play Netrunner, Hades, Cities: Skylines, and Stardew Valley for a while.

hi there, just stopping in for some regularly-scheduled screaming about US politics

😱 AAAAAGGGGHHHHHHH

thank you for your time

In the distant cyberpunk future, media companies have realized that there is way more money to be made by exploiting copyright and suing users than there is in actually generating new content. Original creative output has ground to a halt. "Entertainment" is understood to be solely the domain of the Big Corps; try to create your own and you're liable to be sued into nonexistence for violating an obscure copyright.

In 2017, a Public Policy Polling Survey asked Kentuckians, “Do you approve or disapprove of Senator Mitch McConnell’s job performance?” Only 18% approved. He clawed his rating back up to 39% on the eve of the election.

...So, what exactly drove these angry Kentuckians to reelect Mitch McConnell with a 19-point advantage over opponent Amy McGrath—57.8% to 38.2%?

Even as Republicans across the country still insist that the election was rife with fraudulent Democratic votes, no one’s asking how McConnell managed one of the most lopsided landslides of the Nov. 3 election. They should. An investigation of Kentucky voting results by DCReport raises significant questions about the vote tallies in McConnell’s state.

My wife and I are watching recent Miley Cyrus music videos, and it's going to be so weird to rewatch these in two (or twenty) years and see all the musicians in the ensemble wearing sleek black masks.

Very probable, but far from beying certain it was Russian action. People saying that without any doubt do not have enough knowledge OR manipulate the reader

"Illegal math" sounds dripped directly from a 1960s dystopian novel, but it's being pushed for my many governments around the world.

Banning (non-backdoored) cryptography makes certain math illegal.

I can't even think of anything to add. That really speaks for itself.

Microsoft Teams for Education knows what students are doing late at night.

I have a particular fondness for trying plant-based meat substitutes, just out of sheer curiosity. I'm a meat-eater, but my wife's a vegetarian, and there are definitely environmental benefits to limiting meat consumption, so I like trying different things out.

I grabbed a pouch of Gardein plant-based jerky from Grocery Outlet today, not expecting much. It's basically marinated seitan. And it's surprisingly good. Chewy, proteins, very umami. It's not quite meat-like, but close enough! Really tasty snack.

I know everyone loves popcorn-following /r/AmITheAsshole and /r/relationships, but I feel like y'all are missing out on /r/sociology, where the content is about 10% sociological academia, 50% homework help and discussions from students, and 40% off-the-wall batshit soapbox rants from people who have no connection to the field but want to pontificate about how they think society should run.

Little in board gaming brings me more joy than the words "Install, advance, advance," said while staring your opponent dead in the eyes.

Netrunner is such a good game.

the xylophone in the chorus of "WTF Do I Know" has absolutely no right to rock that hard BUT IT DOES

Capitalism reduced cyberpunk to nothing more than a marketable aesthetic and that will always infuriate me.
in reply to Spencer

The OEmbed on Kickstarter posts is so weird. I just wanted to link to this project.

it's only cyberpunk if it's actually _punk_
if it isn't a criticism of capitalism and the protags are all cishet white guys that's just sparkling neon scifi

The most unpopular FCC chairman in history has announced he will step down.

It's tempting to forget he ever existed. But hear me out

We need to #MakeAjitPaiAMeme

His smug face should become a meme, a cautionary tale of what happens when we don't hold our government accountable

Going all-in on my altar this week because I need every bit of extra strength I can find.

A small altar on a black ceramic tile, featuring a stick of incense, a glass goblet of water, a crow’s feather, and an iridescent geode. On the left is a sigil written in black marker on an index card and on the right is a tarot card: the Seven of Wands.

Seven of Wands:

Hold your ground. You are under attack from multiple angles, but your perseverance and strength will keep you on top so long as you don’t waver. This will be a trial, but it is one you can endure. Do not compromise your values. You can make it.

oh my god it's an office chair for bisexuals

(since Friendica is being a little weird with the embed, here's a link to the Kickstarter page)

I got a beautiful new tarot deck that I'm so excited to have, but in just a week of normal shuffling and use, it's already showing scuffs and damage. The printed layer is separating really easily from the core.

Boooo, I am disappoint.

I only swear by sleeves if I want to shuffle cards without damaging them. Sorry about the disappointment.
in reply to Hypolite Petovan

Yeah, I hadn't thought about sleeving my tarot cards, but I may in the future. A very peculiar intersection of my board-gaming and weird secular occult hobbies. 😂

My wife and I are rewatching Broadchurch, and my goodness, this show is so good at depicting the agony of a small community turning on itself.

I've only seen the first season, but it's excellent. Quite dramatic and sad, though; we actually had to turn it off last night because watching a community tear itself apart was so painful. Turns out we weren't in the mood for that last night.

Startin' my morning by dropping three Friendica bug reports. 😎🐛

My kingdom for clean, full-color SVGs of the original Rider-Waite-Smith tarot card illustrations.

I keep watching this damn video. Brian David Gilbert is delightful.

I got a new set of D&D-themed oracle cards, called The Adventurer's Tarot, and they are just breathtakingly gorgeous:

Emily Willet doesn't like this.

in reply to Spencer

I actually thought this WAS a tarot deck when I backed it so I opened it looking for the suits and got very confused. But that makes sense! I guess it's whatever you make of it. How do you interpret the cards that have two versions? Is one of them like the "reversed" card maybe?

Also on the topic of oracle decks generally, here's something I happened to come across today that might interest you! autostraddle.com/fools-journey…

in reply to Miri Mogilevsky

I think if I were doing a proper reading, I'd pare the deck down to have only one copy of each card. Your idea of treating certain color schemes as "reversed" could also work! I would find that challenging because some of the color differences are fairly subtle, like for II - The Monk or V - The Rogue.

I opened Facebook, saw three posts about the US presidential debates, and immediately felt my heart rate spike.

Looks like I'm taking the night off of Facebook! Glad I have Motley here. ❤️

in reply to Spencer

I've never been a big FB user. Reading a little, but posting, rarely.

I can only imagine the pages and pages of posts and comments on this debate! I'll avoid it for now;-)
