That feels like a weird argument
"There's people over here doing stuff!"
"Bah! Denialism!"

What does he mean?
@silverwizard@˗ˏˋ wakest ΛŽΛŠΛ— Fedi is much smaller than Twitter even though it's been around almost as long.

The alleged denialism is our failure to use his criteria for success. It's go big or go home, clearly.
I really, deeply appreciate your original tweet. We don't need more things that grow explosively and consume all available resources and morph the world in their image. Thanks for prompting some valuable thoughts for me about human-scale tech.
thank you! I dont think there are enough people out here defending these anti capitalist narratives
The arrogant bro is founder and CEO of his own crypto biz. He doesn't see money in fedi, and that's something that should make us happy.
Also the guy your answered to originally is building a new protocol stack with token support in its core. Nothing lost on these folks at all.
he claims the Fedi lost "8 billion people" somewhere along the line, there are only 7,9 billion in the whole World!

If this is the level of his maths/statistical analysis sklils, I wouldn't even trust his crypto/finance business one bit...
@spencer I am imagining zooko, drunk at a christmas party, typing on his laptop with one finger. "8 billion people..."
you don't know him at all
1000% this. The perspective of fedi as human-time-scale tech is a really great way of understanding it. And yeah, we need more of it rather than "fail faster".
here I am learning that the fediverse failed on the β€œfailed” fediverse
didn't like or reply to either of my responses but 'liked' this. I guess if you found a crypto currency you probably think money is the most important part. sometimes it really surprises me how short sighted "smart" people are
Fediverse lacks economic incentive. It relies on goodwill. A solid ground to stand on ❀
that's hyperbole or quick shorthand.

I don't stop using Linux because other people aren't using it? Nor should we stop using mastodon/fediverse.

We have reasons to want more use of these alternatives. We shouldn't get a savior complex, or deny the downsides of what we do. In the case of z-cash ..uh.. lots of PoW cryptocurrency issues. But for the fediverse, follows are often long-physical-distance, which is not always ideal for socializing..
Although it is more common for mutuals on Fedi to be 100s of km away; even when I was on Birbsite I very rarely saw local events been tweeted there, it was more announcements from public services (highways, emergency services) and people complaining about problems in the local area, comparatively little community building stuff...
You're being disingenuous and silly, both of you. You don't need more than one digit of precision in a little microblog back-and-forth.

to be fair even claiming a new social network has "lost" a similar amount of users to the entire global population is a bit of a stretch 😁

My theory du jour: half the four billion are troll accounts from that anti-wife guy and various scrapers and/or Fash.

So it's like when Shakespeare (or Siddon) proclaimed that cowards die a bunch of times before they actually die...:
honestly, this guy sounds like an asshole.
I don't know Zooko, but I bet a bunch of people here do. Is he selling something?
Zooko is an old cypherpunk from the 90s, defined https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zooko%27s_triangle , created https://tahoe-lafs.org/ and is today working on and is CEO of ZCash. He is selling ZCash.

He is no idiot, he is no noob, but he's in a place where he knows and built a lot of stuff and is pretty sure he looked at all the facts and people who draw a different conclusion are just tiresome.

They aren't on Fedi. So Fedi failed 8 billion people while Twitter only failed 7.5 billion and Facebook 5 billion I guess.

And ZCash failed about 8 billion people too! My parents don't know about ZCash. Just give up already.
