Title as content warning
!Friendica Support am I correct in understand that TITLES being shown as Content warnings on #mastodon is a Mastodon decision, not a #friendica one?

Yes, this is abuse IMHO. When "title" is mapped to "warning", this is clearly a semantic break. A title is per se completely different from a CW if you take CW seriously. However, it might be the case that we end up with "titles" all over Mastodon and rename this feature somewhere in the future because many people do seem to switch. Bad for the people who rely on real CWs IMHO. YMMV.

It is a Mastodon decision not to display posts that are marked as "Article" but to only display their title and to provide a link to the post.

Not exactly. Titles make Friendica posts in Mastodon look like Title + Link to the original post, while the Content Warning must be inserted manually through an [abstract] tag.

In the BBCode documentation, it's shown that you can specify a network for the abstract, but I haven't been able to find a consolidated list of these networks. What is used for each? I ask because one of the examples is [abstract=goog], which makes me unsure whether all networks have an arbitrarily shortened nickname for this purpose, or just some.

And more directly, how do you specify Mastodon for an abstract? Mastodon, mast, or something different?

This is a great question, as long as I was the only one asking it I could sleep on it, but now I guess I have to do something about it.

In the meantime, here's the full list from the code:

No, if you set a title, mastodon only shows the title and a link to the original post. Setting a title makes the activity stream a type=Article instead of type=Note. Mastodon does only display Notes.

If you want a CW on mastodon, you have to put the CW-Text in between [abstract][/abstract]. Friendica doesn't display it's content than.

This behaviour is described deeply hidden in your friendica help pages (under /BBCode):
For postings that are delivered via ActivityPub, the text from the abstract is placed in the summary field. On Mastodon this field is used for the content warning.

It's a user-based decision in Settings -> Social Networks -> General -> Enable Content Warnings.

When disabled, the summary is used as a title instead.

Oh, this is funny. But good to know. I usually see CWs as well, except on my on posts and comments. Is it a bug or a feature?

This is a valid point. 😀 It just feels a little bit weird for me to enter some text I cannot access in any way anymore after sending it. But as I now know about it, it's ok for me.

K, I've been meaning to, but it "fails" in several different ways, so I never get around to getting a version that feels like it would actually be helpful to write a GitHub Issue on.

To me, it would make sense to see your own CW, but opened by default. It's not a big deal now I know how it works, but the first time I thought the CW didn't work because it didn't display for me in any way.

I get it, but the way we do “open by default” is with a title, which conflicts with the actual title field we also provide.

This is the general philosophy of Friendica. Most post filtering should be user-based, including content warnings, NSFW and language. You should never see a Friendica admin advocating for authors to add Content Warning in their posts.
