Bart Simpson about to hit Homer with a chair. homer is captioned "a completely unaggressive statement" and Bart is "people who spend all their time in insular internet communities where constantly being unnecessarily hostile and combative towards strangers is considered a personality"

Spencer reshared this.

How big of a deal this is for you in general?

I feel like this meme has a lot of wiggle room when it comes to appreciating the aggressiveness of the initial statement and attributing the reason for any hostile answer to nothing more that an attention-grabbing ploy in minority cultures. In particular, this meme lacks self-reflection about the initial statement and understanding for the hostile responses.

But maybe I’m just spending all my time in insular internet community where “constantly being unnecessarily hostile and combative towards strangers” is considered a personality.
Thank you for the elaboration, without any explanation this meme can read as an alt-right joke mocking "cancel culture" or "Internet outrage". After all "There must be something wrong with people getting mad at me when I say these entirely innocuous things" is a classic page from the alt-right playbook.

Now I know you definitely don't have any alt-right sensibility, but I didn't know the author you shared the post from, so I felt the urge to prod a little.
yeah, it's basically that. I've seen even on fedi some stuff that could've been resolved way better if people had just *talked* to each other instead of assuming the worst possible interpretation of what someone said.
(ironically, this conversation is a great example of the *correct* way to handle things: asking for clarification instead of going straight to "must be evil", so thank you 😀 )
