🔥 Bonfire Social 1.0 release candidate has landed!

Curious about what the fediverse could look like with real community control?

Try out features like custom feeds, nested discussions, shared profiles, circles, and boundary-based permissions — then let us know what breaks or needs improvement.

What if social networks served people in all their diverse complexity — instead of the streamlined simplicity of big platforms?

Bonfire Social is our first app: built for meaningful connection and conversation – community-governed spaces you can make your own.

It’s part of a modular framework that empowers communities to build the tools they need — and shape how they work and feel.

It will take some effort to make 'social' actually be social and its not going to happen by iterating for the n-th time on twitter.

So bonfire has a fighting chance, godspeed.

Congrats! Amazing demo session. Loved the circles concept.

The link seems broken? This one worked for me: bonfirenetworks.org/posts/bonf…

As someone involved in community processes, I am immensely grateful for your effort and work! Long live Bonfire! Congratulations!

Exciting!! I'm watching very closely and am eager to set up an instance upon release!

Cool UI. With the Coordination flavour this could be the intranet of my solarpunkish community village project

I should block the domain indieweb dot social.
That you have come from there is all I need to know.
I was there greeted 2 and a half years ago shortly after signup by 2 #Ukraine Nazis. They had a blond gf for me, in case if I was male. I send a report to TIM CHAPMAN.
An hour later, the Male #Nazi posted a picture of himself with a bladerunner scene holding a report, that he said was mine, and "read it.
Fuck #Ukraine and all the theatrical BULL SHIT. and your "indieweb" Hi to Tim. 🙁

@Linux thanks! we've edited with the correct URL: bonfirenetworks.org/posts/bonf…

Google+, yay!

I'm only posting this to give you the chance to explain all the ways its not.

in reply to Matt Noyes

@Matt_Noyes I hereby second that motion! (just kidding, Robert's Rules is a bummer, but yes let's do this)
in reply to Bonfire

@django @arod @Matt_Noyes yep! I'm traveling this week but I'll be back next and plan to do this. If somebody else in the tech group wants to give it a shot, it's running on coop cloud in server hypha and updating/rebooting the setup should not be too hard 😀 @3wordchant @edsu @dphiffer
in reply to Bonfire

If I were to setup an instance of Bonfire Social would it be possible to migrate/upgrade users to Bonfire Community when I decide that it's time?

@murdoc thanks! we've edited the post with correct link: bonfirenetworks.org/posts/bonf…

This is great. #ORCiD (campground.bonfire.cafe/openid…) and federation is not yet working (I know it is a release candidate). The overall impression is “impressive!”. A lot of features suitable for research. Easy onboarding.💪
There is even a Weather widget ☀️

It seems that #bonfire can export and import all data (incl. posts, messages … Ghosted).

in reply to devSJR

@devSJR FYI federation is not enabled on the campground as we don't want it to become a "flagship instance".

And thanks for the report about ORCID! It was not meant to be enabled on that instance as we have openscience.network dedicated to testing the Open Science flavour. We'll try to fix the issue there in the next release.

in reply to Bonfire

features look very good, but does it fetch all posts (and show correct favorite counts) regardless of which server you’re on or does it miss replies in threads (leaving behind a confusing reading experience) like #Mastodon does?

in reply to eobet

@eobet Our ActivityPub code does *some* automatic fetching of threads, but we also give users control over that, by including options to fetch replies per nested discussion branch or for an entire thread
