Without the leverage of a work stoppage and public demonstrations, companies would never agree to any union demands.

Don’t be fooled: A law that doesn’t allow strikes or picketing doesn’t allow unions. #UnionStrong

These people are so desperate to uphold a white supremacist mythology about this country that they are literally introducing bills that would, in essence, compel teachers to straight up lie about how racism shaped our current society. nytimes.com/2021/05/20/us/…

In 2020, as the lockdown began, a group of tabletop content creators started playing board games together on stream.

Let's check in on them one year later and see how they're doing:

New: crime app Citizen is driving a security vehicle around LA and won't say why. Citizen confirmed to me it's part of a pilot program. The vehicle is linked to a private security company that describes itself as a "subscription law enforcement service"

This @CNN internal memo directs staff to say “Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health” when reporting casualty numbers. It was sent by the Jerusalem bureau chief.

This is a page straight out of Israel’s playbook. It serves to justify the attack on civilians & medical facilities

If you pay even the slightest attention, you'll see clearly, every one of these right-wing alleged free speech defenders actually believes that what they call "cancel culture" is excellent and valid and good. They just want it to stay as it always has: targeted at others.

What captures the fraud that’s our system than the ubiquitous idea that prosecutors should go on to have the appointments and promotions and positions of power and that being a public defender is in and of itself suspicious?

Arguing with me is a privilege reserved for those I already have a trusting relationship with.

This is a rule of thumb I'm trying to stick to in order to keep my brain healthy on global-scale social spaces like Twitter.

Or: they want to be able to finish the job of wrecking democracy. Which is why they’ve been denying what happened. Burying violence creates the conditions for more violence and keeps perps free for next round of action.

Ah, that's my boy. I'm pretty sure he hitchhiked from the Willamette Valley up to Ontario, singing songs and writing poems to pay for passage.

He will be welcomed back at his new home. I mean his home. Where he definitely lives.

Do you recognize this cat? He is a very big, very friendly kitty who is about 2 years old. He was found on a forested trail in Rockwood by a kind family who brought him to #UCHS. Please contact the shelter at 519-833-2287 if you recognize him.

2/ It does not mean, "I have known I am pregnant for six weeks." It means, "The first date of my last menstrual period was six weeks ago."

1/ I am willing to bet that a substantial percentage of Americans, blissfully oblivious, have no idea what "six weeks pregnant" means.

The "trackless train". They used "the trackless train" in this video with a straight face.

Yesterday, PPB posted this.

Their narrative, that they methodically approached a vehicle and found two people passed out, guns, and then helped all while taking a jab at witnesses.

That turns out to not be the case.

I don't know how, exactly, but Perpetually Aggrieved Online Leftists have evolved a conversational tone perfectly suited to making me want to tear my hair out.

More and more, I think global-scale social media was a mistake.

This air of perpetual grievance, this epistemic closure and fundamentalist insistence upon binary thought would be moderated by relationships in-person.

in reply to Spencer

The decontextualized, stranger-filled atmosphere of global-scale social media is oxygen to the flame.

"you can only celebrate your Pride in a certain way"

is kinda,

you know,

the problem

in reply to Spencer

the idea that sexuality is a Dangerous and Corrupting and Perverting and Evil force, and that it must be controlled, and expressed only in the most anodyne forms possible, for fear of Tainting the Children… like, you do see how that's not liberatory, right??

I just cannot find the words. The fact that this is where The Discourse is today has me so weary.

Have we learned fucking nothing?

I love paying TurboTax a few hundred bucks every year to figure out how much money I owe the government, which the government already knows, but won’t tell me because TurboTax pays legislators to keep the government from telling me. 🥰

it will never stop being fucked up that a failed game show host got to install a third of the united states supreme court

This is why I have less and less patience each year for purity-at-pride culture: a woman having a picture of her wife on her desk counts as "sexually explicit" to a culture that sees queer existence as inherently sexual.

One of the many, many reasons behind displaying overt sexuality at Pride is that queer liberation requires things that non-queer people demand to be hidden away---not be hidden away.

y'all understand that after they ban abortion, homosexuals and transgenders are their new unifying cause, their new moral panic, their new casus belli, right?

all of us queers, we get to be the new whip to hold their geriatric religious hate coalition together.

Everyone yelling about "but what about the kids??" It's disingenuous. The kids are fine. Don't use them as a scapegoat for your own hangups.

I’ve actually unfollowed longtime mutuals over over this. I’m deeply uncomfortable with people hijacking the language of consent to mean “I shouldn’t have to see anything I don’t want to, ever” when that has been the stated reason for oppressing queer people for decades.

Bill O'Reilly once wrote in an editorial that if two men hold hands in public he will have to explain anal fisting to his daughter, which raises serious questions about how he holds hands.

But that's the exact same energy this "kink ruins pride for families" purity culture has.
